A Story of a gambler

Steve started working after he finished his PMR. It's not that he cannot afford to continue his studies, he just chose not to continue. He went to Singapore and worked in a factory.

He started to gamble with friends and colleagues during free time. Not really addicted but just to pass his free time. When there's big events like the world cup, then he will bet, everything is still under control.

After a few years in Singapore, he decided to come back to KL. Found a job, settled down, get married, and even bought himself an apartment. Everything went well. After married wife still in hometown, so left him alone in KL again.. he started his hobby.. gambling.

His working place is very near to Genting, started going to Genting with colleagues during off days. Money comes money go, credit cards withdrawing money is nothing new to him. Soon, he accumulated his debts, almost all his credit cards are fully used.

He's the only son, the parents helped him with all the debts but he doesn't changed. Instead of going to genting, he started a gambling corner at his work place. Colleagues gathered together and gamble, life is full of excitement, until the management found out. The gambling corner was closed!!

After closed, what else, genting again. He's no longer going up during off day, he's going up during breaks, even for 1-2 hours, he's totally ADDICTED. Every week, 2-3 times at least, sooner or later full of debts again.. and this time, the debts even more, almost RM 100K.

Again, the parents helped him to settle, but they warned him, this is the only money they had, they are already in their 50-ies, they can't helped him some more. He agreed that he had gone too far and decided to quit the habit!!

Quit? so easy to quit? 2 months later after he annouced to quit, his car was tolled, reason? did not pay the car installments for many many months, where did the money go?
This is a real story, happened to one of my friend's friend. I feel sorry for his parents for having this kind of son. Parents worked so hard, they are hawkers, saved all the money and yet spent it all to settle his debt and the worst thing is, he felt that it's his parent's responsibilities to help him settle all his debts!! He even used suicidal to threaten the parents if they don't help him.

I really hope the parents can stopped helping him, at least make him realized that there's NOT always someone there to help him. Stop helping him MAYBE can stop him from gambling...

Conclusion, don't gamble. Don't lie to yourself that you only gamble for fun, you know how to control. gambling is just like drugs, once you started, it's very hard to get rid of it....
